Abstract:The paper aims to reflect on the future role of design of interactive technologies in the Health Care domain. By drawing on the socio-technical notion of dispositif by Foucault and by focusing on knowledge and power issues, this work shows how the actual Health Care system creates a series of knowledge asymmetries and structures of dominance and exclusions that are produced and reproduced to the detriment of patient point of view. Given the growing importance of technologically mediate self-care practices and patient empowerment, this work supports a more patient-centric perspective and discusses challenges toward a design for the reconciliation of different practices and perspectives.
